In this video, I make some improvements on my “Junk Forge”. This solid fuel forge is a pretty straight-forward build using materials that shouldn’t be too hard to source at your local steel yard. When completed, I’ll be able to fuel the forge with either coal or charcoal ..

  1. Hello. Very interesting video. Thank you for your work. There is a similar video on my channel. Your opinion will be important to me. Please comment. How could you improve my forge?

  2. This looks like a great build. 👍 I’d definitely like to build something very similar to your design. Great video.

  3. What kind of speed controller is that? Where did you get it?
Did you ever finish the build? If you lost footage, at least show us what you ended up with. Good, bad, and ugly…

  4. I recommend the slider (which is intended to size the fire box) to be fitted with a vent cover. Simply a piece of bar stock which covers the part of the slit in the bottom which is not used. The vent covering could also act as the handle? Most likely it is more practical to use a piece of threaded rod and a nut setup to move the wall back and forth. Also I would make a (possibly screw on) piece of the off cut 12 gauge sheet metal to the top of the slider wall to cover the part of the hole you are not using to prevent coal from getting trapped. The piece of sheet metal would sit on top of the sheetmetal in the table and simply slide along. The piece you cut out to make the fire hole rotated 90 degrees should work and for a wide range of movement.

  5. To assist with portability, you could attach some wheels to the top frame, so when you remove the legs you can just wheel it away, rather than carry it. Also, you might be able to put the bolts on the sides of the frame so when you loosen the bolt, the leg will fold into the frame and not have to be disconnected entirely.

Interesting stuff. I'm new to the channel, I look forward to more interesting stuff :)

  6. Great job man! I really like your presentation here. Showing the sketch was a nice touch!
