🔵 How to Bend and Cut 20 mm PVC Conduit (90 Degrees Bend Using a Bending Spring)

The walls of cheap plastic conduit can be thinner than that of more expensive PVC conduit. This could mean the cheaper conduit is in fact light gauge and not heavy gauge we use for surface wiring systems. This light gauge conduit can kink when bending as demonstrated fantastically by Chris.

What a pleasure it was for all staff and learners to have Chris visit us and spend a day passing on his knowledge.

  1. This test is flawed.
You should use the same spring on both types of conduit to compare results accurately.

  2. To be fair iv always rolled it 3 times acros my knee before bending with my hand never had a problem but some of this conduit now is rubbish

  3. Lovely Chris! Goes to show we are all taught things differently, and you can only do what works best for you 🤗

  4. Sure i read in the spec sheets somewhere that they recommend a heat gun to facilitate smooth bending (unless you enjoy the kinky stuff)

  5. Nothing to do with cheap conduit… a heavy gauge spring in light gauge conduit will not form properly and cause the conduit to kink.

  6. The first conduit is light gauge not a cheap conduit..yes it's costs less to buy.. you can actually get a slightly larger spring to accommodate the larger hole for the light gauge conduit.

  7. Regardless of conduit quality, bending over the knee seems to be stacking the odds against yourself (as the question voiced hints at).

  8. By all means buy the cheap stuff, but use inspection elbows or bends, don't waste your time with the spring.

  9. Nice video 👍. Cheap conduit not worth paying for. Spend the little extra and get the better stuff.
