Learn about the different methods of connecting the wires on your wiring harness. The three ways we demonstrate in this video are the following:
1) Butt Connectors
2) Crimp Caps
3) Solder & Heat Shrink

Overall, we recommend soldering all wires because it created a secure, solid connection that isn’t going to short out over time. However, the down side to soldering is that it takes a lot longer.
Butt connectors are the most popular and widely used connector because of how easy they are to install. Crimp caps are fast and secure, but they are bulky and take up a lot of space.

  1. How do you know if the connection is good with a but connector can you put a wire wrong and it not work ?

  2. I was literally going to buy wire nuts tomorrow morning cause I keep having to cut off the crimp caps to fix issues. I am trying to integrate an amp into my audio system.

My head unit is the KENWOOD KMMBT728HD and the amp is the KENWOOD KAC-M1814.

I wired the matching wires to each other. Speaker wires alone I had bundles of 3, cars harness, stereo harness and amp harness.

Fast forward, I plug in the harnesses and then I get a "Miswiring" read out.

I'm really not sure where I went wrong, if anyone can help I'd appreciate it.

  3. I did all the wiring correct.. following the colors and when i installed and connect the radio is not turning on…what I'm doing wrong?????

  4. What if the but connector didnt go on right.. And then you pull it out of the old but connector and you have longer and shorter wires can you cut the longer ones and strip off more

  5. Pro tip: when using butt connectors (or even soldering), if you offset each connector then you eliminate a lot of bulk.

  6. Very well done. Good non jerkey ,steady camera and good audio. It is a releaf to see a good video production compaired to most of the bad audio and videos on youtube.

  8. I have a 2014 Nissan pathfinder sl 4wd and to make a long story short I cut the harness that was connected to my display screen so now I'm trying to connect it back but there are a lot of the same color wires and I don't know which one goes with which …this has been a huge headache for me . I've tried to find a diagram with no luck I went to a junk yard but no Nissan pathfinder 2014 I went to auto sound no luck …someone please help …thanks

  9. Hello, thanks for your great videos …is it possible for you to answer a question I have? I have a crazy situation here and I need all the help and advice I can get…

  10. My vote is for the closed end crimp connectors. Why? It is one crimp per connection instead of two, and, you have the ability to mechanically twist the two wires together. Lasts a really long time. I have them in a truck that is about 30 years old, the connectors are about 24 years old.

  11. Nice job. I was wondering what kind of soldering iron you have, I've never seen one like that it seems to work good.
