In this vide I test a popular universal router dust collection system to see if it really works and if it’s worth the money.

I don’t know about you, but my router makes a MASSIVE mess. To the point that I try and avoid using it as an effort to keep my shop as neat and tidy as I possibly can (still have a long way to go). That’s why I wanted to try out this dust collection system for my router, myself, and see if the juice is really worth the squeeze.

  1. 9:43 Try putting clear packing tape over where the bit goes through the dust collection so there is less clearance. See if that improves the collection. That's a hack I saw for using the Makita compact routers.

  2. It does a great job of sucking up the dust, BUT – you can't install a collet guide, which is a problem for me. So in that regard the Festool is about the only option.

  3. I know it says craftsman on the router, but is that basically a Bosch, because that’s what it looks like

  4. I was surprised how little dust my little cheap trim router spills. And I am too bad of a woodworker to know if trim routers mess less than full size machines in general.

  5. Thanks! You addressed one of my biggest issues (since I will never be able to afford the expensive brand :).

  6. Nice review. I purchased this device about a year ago. A few things to watch out for. First, the "dome" that sits inside the router, surrounding the bit will get caked with with dust, making it difficult to spin freely. Second, a serious short coming are the "tabs" that connect the dust collection port to the inside dome. They are very small, and very brittle. Mine have snapped off, rendering the entire system useless. Make an effort to avoid strain on that part (the tabs) with your dust collection hose, or they will break.

  7. Very impressive dust collection! The main reason I don't like to use my router is because of the dust in the shop. Thanks for the review.

  8. Looks like a good solution fore a large problem. Normaly I am only using a router when I can outside, and the nabours donˋt dry their laundry in the garden :-)
    Thanks from Søren

  9. Pretty impressive, dude! That's fantastic! 😮
Here in Brazil we don't have access to the same brands from the US, but I'm going to look for something like that when I get a router!
Anyway, stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊

  10. I purchased one of those a while back. It works really well. My two complaints are the hose connector tabs are weak (I had one snap off but they sent a replacement right away) and you can’t put a guide bushing on it.

  11. Good to know! I've been thinking about getting this for a while….guess I should make it happen. 👍
